The Start of High School

Submitted By: Jessica Lee

I have been in high school for around two weeks, and I am slowly adapting to the new environment. I have experienced many changes already that make high school different from middle school. Firstly, teachers have higher expectations. It is assumed that you have been taught well in middle school, and much of the knowledge obtained there is used in classes here. Secondly, there is much more freedom. At my school, there are many clubs and sports teams to join. These are the places where one can express their interests and hobbies. Furthermore, in classes, teachers often give students more choices to make on their own. Another main difference between middle school and high school is that high school students are much busier. Along with the stress and homework, being in high school also inspires people to think about their future. This motivates them to pursue their interests by joining clubs, teams, and taking classes that they are interested in. However, with all these differences, there are still some similarities. For example, there is still time to hang out with friends during break times and lunch. These are the times to catch up with friends and have fun. Personally, even though life is busier, my friends still have a large part in my daily life. My first few weeks of high school have gone off to a good start. It’s exciting to experience new things, like rallies, high school dances, clubs, and having to share the campus with so many other grades. Much awaits my high school career, and I know that this is just the beginning. Classes will get harder, and there will be many more new experiences, but I am looking forward to it all!
