COVID-19 has had many impacts on both our daily lives, and our entire environment. There are many positive and negative impacts that affect both us and the environment.
COVID-19 is a disease that has recently started a pandemic around the world. The first case for COVID was found in Wuhan, China. Since then the corona virus has caused many lockdowns and changes around the world.
Symptoms for COVID-19 include:
- Fever or chills
- Cough
- Difficulty breathing
- Headaches
- Loss of taste or smell
Ever since the cases for COVID-19 started rising up humans have spent much less time outside and much less time driving cars and traveling. This decreases fossil fuel consumption and greenhouse gas production from vehicles. In ecological tourist attractions there are far less people visiting which helps keep pressure low in turn helping them recover. With less people outside there is also a lot less littering that helps with the amount of pollution all around the world.
Every benefit also comes with a cost though. With the exponential need of medical equipment there is a rise of medical waste which is a lot more hazardous than normal litter such as plastic bottles or cardboard boxes. With the dangers of going outside, activities that normally help the environment like volunteering are canceled. Without these activities many areas are kept dirty and never cleaned up.
