The Importance of Getting a Haircut

By Kevin Gong

Is your hair or ends feeling dry, lacking its usual shine, or just not looking as fabulous as they should? You may need to look into getting a haircut. The hair of your dreams could just be a few snips away, you just have to bring yourself to go to the salon to get it done. A haircut can transform the unhealthiest of hair into something that is manageable and on its way to becoming healthy. Getting haircuts should always be a part of your hair care. A haircut helps keep your hair healthy by removing any breakage or split ends. Choosing to not get haircuts can be a detriment to all the hard work you do to keep your hair healthy, so try not to skip out on it.

If you do not get a regular haircut to chop off your split ends, your hair will not grow the way you want it to. Plus, if you feel like your hair looks frizzy or damaged, getting a haircut can help restore your healthy shine. When your cuticles get damaged, they become more porous and cannot retain moisture. So, if after you take a shower, your ends are drying way quicker than the rest of your hair, you should think about getting your hair trimmed to get rid of any damage.

Split ends and your hair are mortal nemeses. Split ends are a sign of damage and breakage so they are definitely not a good thing to have. The only way to get rid of pesky split ends is to get a trim. If you don’t cut off split ends, the end will continue to split up the hair shaft and you’ll have to cut off inches instead of trimming.

Ultimately, the frequency of getting your haircut depends on how well you take care of your hair. Understanding how to take care of your hair is just knowing your hair type and your hair porosity. As a general rule of thumb, you should get a trim about every 8-12 weeks. Obviously, if you start to notice any of the red flags that I have mentioned above, you should try to get a trim more frequently than the general 8-12 weeks.
