The 2022-2023 NBA season is right around the corner, and many teams have upgraded their rosters to make their push into playoff contention and a potential championship. However, the reality is that some teams will be more interesting to watch than others, regardless of how good or bad they are — here are the top 5 teams to tune into this year.
- The Los Angeles Clippers: With a healthy Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, the Clippers are looking as scary as ever. Adding on John Wall, the aging star and excellent point guard and facilitator, they are going to be a team to watch as they make their name known in the Western Conference this season. They have also made some big acquisitions following the trade deadline last season, deepening their squad with Norman Powell and Robert Covington, surrounding their stars with the shooters and defense necessary to go against the top teams in the league.
- Cleveland Cavaliers: The addition of all-star Donovan Mitchell to this young team will make this year’s Cavs one to watch. Last year the Cavaliers were severely limited by their lack of facilitation, having those responsibilities fall squarely on Darius Garland’s shoulders after Ricky Rubio’s season ending injury. Then after considering first time all-star Jarrett Allen and defensive stalwart Evan Mobley, the team has such a broad range of talent that is must-see TV.
- Minnesota Timberwolves: The Timberwolves are the only team that contains 3 players in ESPN’s top 25 player list for next season. Having a star-studded roster of All-NBA third team player Karl-Anthony Towns, young explosive star Anthony Edwards, and their new acquisition in Rudy Gobert, the team is going to look to make their second consecutive playoff-push. Seeing how the best shooting center in the league and the best paint-protecting center in the league work in tandem, along with the explosive rim cuts and flashy dunks made by Edwards, is something that most NBA fans will not want to miss.
- New Orleans Pelicans: This team put together a roster that last year brought the 1st seed Phoenix Suns to 6 games in the first round. Now adding in the young superstar Zion Williamson to the mix is going to make for a very interesting season. How veteran CJ McCollum will lead the team of young stars in Brandon Ingram and Williamson, as well as young talents of Herb Jones, Dyson Daniels, and Jose Alvarado will be a fascinating dynamic to follow.
- Golden State Warriors: Of course, I would be remiss to leave the Warriors from this list. Fresh off of a championship, the team will be looking to develop their young stars in Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, and James Wiseman. Wiseman has shown out in Summer League, and will look to continue his growth under the mentorship of now 8-year-veteran Kevon Looney. The core of Curry, Thompson, Green, Wiggins, and Poole will look to continue their successes from the previous season and perhaps add another ring to their fingers. Seeing how they navigate this season and a deeper Western Conference will be must see TV.
