Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle
For many of us, the new year begins with a party with an abundance of food and then a resolution to start a healthy lifestyle. Getting in shape is one of the most common New Year’s resolutions, yet only a small percentage of people are able to achieve that goal. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle requires lots of commitment, but it pays off greatly in the end. Here are a list of tips that will help you to live a healthy life.
- Before trying to achieve your goal, first keep track of what how much physical activity you get during a week and what you typically eat every day. The Center for Disease Control recommends at least two and a half hours of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week or an hour and 15 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity. Take a look at your current lifestyle and assess it, using the Center for Disease Control’s recommendation as a criterion. After your self assessment, you should know what you need to improve on.
- Increase your physical activity and move more. An easy yet effective thing to do is walk. You don’t need any equipment, and it is easy and safe to do. Try to aim for at least 30 minutes a day. It may seem like a lot, but if you walk in chunks of 10 minutes each throughout the day, it won’t seem like a lot to handle. Set a weekly goal for physical activity so that you know what you should be doing.
- Improve your diet. Stock your pantry with healthy snacks, and get rid of unhealthy ones so that when you are hungry, you only have healthy snacks to eat. Make sure that you get enough fruits and vegetables every day. Otherwise, you won’t get a sufficient amount of nutrients.
Getting into and maintaining a healthy lifestyle might seem difficult given the commitment required, but it is something that can be accomplished. Following these tips will help you get fit during the new year.
